Carnatic Violin

As we know it, but played sitting cross-legged on the floor and resting the instrument near the feet instead of the neck. It was introduced into the subcontinent around 1790 mainly by the Irish working for the East India Company. However, the music style has been adapted to suit both Northern and Carnatic (Southern) Indian styles.
